Yves Saint Laurent

At the beginning of the month the famous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent received the Legion of Honour as Grand Officer's from the President of the Republic hands . " You made the fashion for forty years, but you especially built an artistic work", said Nicolas Sarkozy.
Yves Saint Laurent began with Christian Dior to launch his eponymic house in 1961 with the businessman Pierre Bergé . He left fashion in 2002 with a major fashion show retrospective at the Beaubourg Museum in Paris.

Dandy of the week

This week, I decided to create a new column presenting contemporary dandies.
To inaugurate this column, Johann, 21 year old, studying business in France, and at Central St Martins - the British famous school of design - who shares his time between Rouen, London and the most beautiful city of the world, Paris. ;-)

Could you introduce yourself?
Polymorphic but coherent, a miracle-worker but human, polite but crude, curious but serious, decadent but smart, passionate but reconciling, so simple but so sophisticated! A living paradox, that’s what I am.

Who are your favourite designers?
Gaultier because he is more than a talented designer, he is also a marketing genius. Galliano because it is obvious. Lagerfeld because elegance has a name, and its name is Karl.

Where could we meet you in Paris?
Everywhere in Paris! With a slight preference for the 6 first districts…
At night, you might see me at the Cab, the VIP, the Pershing Hall, in the Costes restaurants & bars, and in small French typical restaurants full of charm.

What is the ‘dandy attitude’ according to you?
Great clothing, culture, elegance and above all sobriety! One can be himself, have strong personality, but nobility is the daughter of humility. If you are elegant, you should not have to prove it, it has to be evident and natural.

What do you think of our dandy of the week? ;-)
Do you know contemporary dandies? Don't hesitate to send there pictures to urbandandy at hotmail.fr

Dandy's Paris

I like particularly this subway station. Maybe because it evokes one of the books of my childhood or maybe because it is singular...

And you, what is your favourite subway station?

Piper Rosé by Viktor & Rolf Tasting

Last week, I had the pleasure to discover the limited edition of Rosé Sauvage by Viktor & Rolf.

The famous fashion designers reinterpreted the champagne by creating a bottle, a bucket and a flute very inspired by one of their last collection, "Upside Down", for the brand Piper-Heidsieck. When the bottom becomes the top. From there, it’s easy to say that the champagne puts the head back to front ;-)

Such a fireworks, the champagne explodes and bounces by freeing aromas of red fruits and juicy citrus fruits. And you, what about this "Pink Fever" vintage?;-)

John Galliano

Talented fashion designer, eccentric creator with a delirious look, narcissistic dandy and agitator, John Galliano leaves nobody indifferent and his fashion shows are among the most expected for Dior or for his own activities.

It is not of his last collection for men I wanted to introduce you in which one long leather coats, pants of fights in skin and surrealist printed T-shirts are worn as modern camouflages, but the mythical house 60th anniversary of the 30 avenue Montaigne in Paris.

I suggest you to follow our dandy who celebrates his ten years as artistic director of Dior, in the creation wings of a collection and a visit of the museum Dior.

Dandy's bag

Today, a surprise: I empty my bag. Due to heard, " Yann, what do you have in your bag? ", I reveal the contents for you.

What is the object of so much curiosity? A vintage black quite simple document case, aesthetic and practical which gives a certain elegance.

When an urban dandy unpacks his bag, you will find:
- a camera
- notebooks
- my diary with the indispensable pens
- magazines
- an invitation for " Art in Capital " (I will talk later of this event)
- my glasses case Prada
- a wallet
- a subway ticket (yes, I take the subway:-)
- my folder to have my files everywhere
- carmex because it is cold

And you, what do you have in your bag?;-)

Frédéric Beigbeder for the Galeries Lafayette Homme

Frédéric Beigbeder, the french rebel dandy, is the new Galeries Lafayette Homme’s muse. Famous to be out of phase with reality and his elegance, the French writer posed for Jean-Paul Goude. Bare chasted with “La société de consommation” from Jean Baudrillard in his hands.

Frederic bare chasted for the Galeries is it a Dandy's attitude? ;-)

Galignani, an English bookshop in Paris

Just before the week-end, I’d like to share with you one of my best addresses to find gifts for your friends or yourself ;-) : Galignani, the First English bookshop established on the continent.

During a shopping afternoon, for example :-) make a detour in this historic place, which is located under the arcades of the “Rue de Rivoli”, halfway between the Louvre and the Concorde.

I am very fond of the quiet atmosphere and beautiful pieces of decorative woodwork but I like more their book’ selection of International Fine Arts departments (decorative arts, design and fashion).

You can also just go window-shopping as I sometimes do : a real aesthetic pleasure.

Have a good week-end shopping ;-)

Discovery of a young fashion designer

Today, I want to introduce you to one of my friends, Vincent Schoepfer, who is a ready-to-wear fashion designer for men. If I were a Vogue journalist, I would describe him as:

A new generation creator, who has a great career in fashion. After Vincent had a temporary shop, Le Garage des Créateurs, he presented his first male collection in 2006, at the international Festival of Young Fashion creators in Dinard, where he won the special award from the City of Paris. As an enthusiastic worker, he is original and always on the move. His fashion gives way to sophisticated material, in a casual chic spirit for urban dandies blossoming in a colourful world. If his name doesn’t ring a bell yet, there is no doubt you’ll hear about him in forthcoming seasons.

I will interview Vincent Schoepfer in one of my upcoming posts ;-) In the meantime, you can take a look at his collection. Personally, I am addicted. What about you?
